Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This marks his first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after March of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet defended four initial chances in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
